Music arguments are pointless, as we've all got different tastes.
Clearly an excellent band who have stood the test of time, but they still wouldn't make my own personal top 10, regardless of the fact I like loads of their songs, as I just like music from that era.
Got tickets for a ska event in garon park this August and I'd rather go to that and see From the Jam and Bad Manners etc than see the full Beatles line up live, simple as that.

Not about popularity Sven, more the impact and how recognisable they are.

Surf my ol argumentative chum... I original said that the Beatles were lousy live and not comparable to someone like The Who (in their pomp....not with half their band dead like now)...it was you that reared up and shoved me a YouTube recording of them playing 2 covers when they are well known fir being up there with the greatest songwriters ever... I called it weird that you put those 2 up as proof that they was better than The Oo ....I've not changed my mind...

Yes, the Beatles are the most popular
Like McDonalds are the most popular restaurant and EastEnders the most popular tv show Harry Potter is the best book And The Sun the high point of journalism

There are live performances of certain songs that can do that yes.
Even Beatles ones at the time I'm sure.

I listened to The Beatles when I was younger - not so much these days. I get their importance, but never really got them as a group if that makes sense.
I don't dislike them, but music is subjective.

You could say the same about football fans?
And are you saying that people can't be blown away by art form? Have you never been blown away by a film? A TV programme? A piece of art? An amazing goal?
I find people who can't be blown away by a piece of genius as weird.

Says more about radio playlists in the UK than anything else.
Walk into a bar in a foreign country and there's a big chance they'll be playing a Beatles song. Pretty much everyone has heard of them. Stones and Kinks not so much.

Is there any other sort of music fan than a casual one?
People who fiercely devote themselves to bands/singers/labels (unless they're directly involved and/or making money off them) are weird.

Listened to them a lot as a kid as the old man had the box set,, so mostly haven't bothered as an adult as I could probably recite word for word songs I haven't heard for 35 years if they came on.
In My Life, Here Comes the Sun and Something are still all absolute crackers though.

Not a fan myself. They just happened to be the first. Can’t remember the last time I heard a Beatles record but I hear other 60’s 70’s records all the time, the Beatles stuff hasn’t aged very well whereas the stones and kinks etc have done

Def and eerie
I'm sure we could all say that about most bands. I love their more obscure(ish) stuff from about 66 onwards. Granted it doesn't "blow me away" but tbh I can't think of many songs that actually do... its just music ain't it. Plus I'm not really sure its even meant to; its not stadium rock or power ballads.

They are a 60’s pop band. Thats it. No classics that you will ever want at a big family event.
Not in the Champions League.
Example Elvis, The Rolling Stones.

Thank you, exactly that. People say they are the best band ever because they have been told that, Most people can't name an obscure Beatles record, just the usual boy band songs. I've never ever heard a mate play a Beatles tune in a car or DJ yet pretty much every other genre I have.

Not entirely appropriate - but when I lived in Manhattan I'll always remember this from Rob Bartlett and Don Imus on the NBC morning show - @kin hilarious ! By the way, rob bartlett was black.

Do you mean the 20 years when their most avid fans, myself included, would struggle to describe their live shows as anything better than, 'a bit shit'.

Song writing is lyrics and melody
Harmonisation is just arrangement
About 10,000 acts harmonise better than the Beatles

Don't think they have played for about 20 years Surf son so yeah maybe it did piss off the audience in the end... still not listened to your link... footy on at the mo
